EPS and PICT File Specific Notes
I wanted to save a version of my drawings that were not specific to any type of computer or programme. The drawings will still work best with a drag and drop drawing programme but these files will allow you to convert them to use in your own favourite package. I have only limited space to save different versions of these drawings, I chose the Encapsulated Postscript (EPS) file because I have been informed that this is very portable between machines and retains all of the information from the original drawing.
The EPS files were used for the conversion of the files to a MAC specific format, by Guillaume Fortin. The files and the compression format should be easier for MAC users.
Page Scale 0.875 Inches to 5 feet
About 22.23mm per square. Each floor section is one square, some of the other shapes occupy more or less than one square. Check that your drawing programme has loaded them at the same scale. Adjust the scale of your application so that the drawings print out with 0.875 inch squares.
Floors
Rotate the four floor squares provided in all four possible directions to give added variety. Join them together in larger squares and save them. I find 4x4 and 5x5 the most useful sizes. These larger floor sections can then be used as the basis for other drawings.
Walls
These are just very thick shaded grey lines. I have provided samples but it is best to use your own drawing package to create the walls.
Files
eps_cst5.zip is a compressed file (280K), containing:
I created these for the benefit of those people who do not have Windows PC's. I do not use them myself so can not guarantee that they all work, or are in fact any good at all. The ones I have tested looked as good as the originals. If you find any problems with them please e-mail with the details and I will fix it, if I can.
For a full list of the files in the MAC PICT archive PICT_C5.SIT view the text file pict.txt.
Installation
Uncompress the files directly in to a separate directory to keep them all together.
If you are using the EPS files I recommend that the first thing you do is load each shape in to your drawing programme and group the parts together. Each shape is made up of several individual pieces. They are intended to be moved as one, but the eps format does not retain the group information. For ease of use make each drawing in to one object (group) and save it in your applications native drawing or clip art format.
Public Domain
You may use these shapes for any purpose as long as credit is attributed to Mark and myself.
Final Note
I would like to thank Guillaume Fortin for testing the EPS drawings on a MAC and then converting them to a more common MAC format (PICT.)
